The Costa Smeralda provides a stunning setting and a variety of great, challenging conditions for the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, one of the highlights of the Mediterranean yachting season. The first Maxi World Championship took place in 1980, created by the YC Costa Smeralda in Sardinia and its' president, the Aga Khan. The regatta is now an eagerly anticipated annual event and attracts a sizeable fleet of these majestic yachts to Porto Cervo each September.
